Experimental study on individual walking speed during emergency evacuation with the influence of ship motion

Ship motion is an important influencing factor in passenger ship evacuation that affects the entire process by reducing individual’s walking speed. This study aims to quantify such effects berthing and sailing operations collecting experimental data support decisions. The utilized Dalian Maritime University’s training conduct human experiments influence of on passengers’ normal fast speeds. It was found during period, speed 1.28–1.68 m/s, 1.50–2.14 m/s. During sailing, ship’s rolling reduced 3.8%–10.3% 3.7%–14.0%. Due rolling, higher deck farther away centre is, smaller athwartship fore-aft Athwartship slightly faster than walking. Similarly, mode, 1.6%–3.7% walking, while 0.8%–4.9% Furthermore, average younger group 24.1% older group. Finally, reduction ratio 86.0%–96.2%, value decreased as height increased.
